The sweet almond tree, a deciduous tree growing up to 30 feet tall, is a native of Western Asia and bears white to pale pink flowers in addition to its famous seeds of the same name. Almonds are not true nuts, but are actually drupes--an outer hull surrounding a hard shell that contains the seeds as we know them inside. It is from these drupes that sweet almond oil is derived, which has long been utilized for its benefits as a carrier oil in massage therapy and aromatherapy!

History of Sweet Almond
Sweet almond oil has a rich history of use, its edible nuts and beneficial oils traditionally used to support glowing skin health. The tree from which almonds are derived has been revered across folk legends and religious traditions; one famous French legend tells of almond branches growing magically overnight as a shelter to protect Charlemagne's troops! Today, sweet almond oil can be found in most massage therapy parlors and is a staple in creating unique, fragrant massage oils with essential oils in aromatherapy.
