Immortalized in lyric and verse since the dawn of time, a rose by any other name remains “The Queen of Flowers.” A woody, thorny perennial, rose’s overwhelming popularity as an ornamental flower has spawned countless hybrid variations, including miniature blooms and a spectrum of bloom colors. Rose’s awe-inspiring beauty and symmetry are matched by its unmistakable bouquet, which has been used in cosmetics, perfumes, and personal care products for thousands of years.

History of Rose
Rose’s place in history is far deeper than its role in aromatherapy. Regardless, it is interesting to note that the Arab physician Avicenna is credited with creating the very first rose essential oil (along with the first rose water) while working in alchemy – attempting to turn various metals into gold. In adding rose petals to his experiments, Avicenna “accidentally” extracted the pure essence of rose and subsequently discovered its many therapeutic benefits. Rose was equally revered in ancient Greece, Rome and Egypt, where it was used to make aromatic pomades that anointed the body with fresh, flowery fragrance. Rose’s legend only grew grander as time passed; no other flower has appeared so widely in cuisine, folk medicine, religion, art, music and literature. With this esteemed history, rose is the official flower of the human species!
