What is Hemp?
A flowering annual herb that can reach a height of 16 feet, Cannabis sativa originated in the Middle East but is now grown worldwide in tropical and temperate climates. This branching plant produces white seeds which, when pressed, release their nutrient-rich oil, which is one of the few plant seed oil sources that contain a significant amount of omega-6 GLA in addition to omega-3 ALA and omega-9 oleic acid. Hemp is one of the earliest domesticated plants known to man and has been cultivated for over 12,000 years!
The use of hemp was first mentioned in Chinese texts dating back to 3,000 years ago. In medieval times, the oil was used topically in balms and poultices. In fact, hemp may be one of the most versatile natural products available; every part of the plant has been historically used, from making rope, cloth, pulp, and paper, to creating moisturizing agents and wellness applications, and even more recently as an alternative biofuel. Hemp, with its linen-like texture, was even long used to make sail canvases—the word “canvas” is derived from the word “Cannabis”!

Hemp seed oil is a popular ingredient to have in the kitchen. Cold-pressed from the seeds, this oil imparts its mild nutty flavor to many dishes. Because it is unrefined, it is not suitable for high-heat cooking, but is perfect in making smoothies, shakes, dressings, and dips, and for overall adding a nutritional boost to no to low-heat (under 300°F) recipes.
Hemp seed oil is also available in easy-to-swallow liquid capsules for easy everyday use. These supplements are perfect for those looking to boost their intake of important omega 3, 6, & 9 essential fatty acids as well as amino acids.
Hemp Seed Oil Directions for Use
Always consul with your trusted healthcare provider before adding any supplement to your daily regimen. There is no set daily recommended allowance for hemp seed oil. Hemp seed liquid oil can be added to most recipes to impart its nutritional profile and nutty flavor to your dishes. You can also nutritionally supplement your diet by using 1–2 tablespoons daily of this light, nutty tasting oil in pasta, salad dressings, marinades, smoothies or as a dipping oil for breads. Should not be used as a frying oil or at temperatures above 150°C/300°F. To include hemp seed oil supplements into your daily regimen, adults take one (1) liquid capsule daily with meals for optimal benefits.
